Your beer taste buds will enjoy combinations of toast, cocoa, wheat, rye, roast, citrus, coffee, coconut, coriander and hops varieties galore.  You will not find these beers anywhere else in town.  And there is always the great Apocalypse tap offering as well.  Here is a partial beer list for this event.

RYSYRO (Ralphie You’ll Shoot Your Rye Out) – American Rye. 5% ABV.  Brewer, Tim Thomas

German Wheat – 2/3rds wheat, 1/3rd pilsner beer with 3944 yeast, step infusion and Hallertau hops – hopefully fermented hot to pick up some banana/clove from yeast. 5% ABV.  Brewer, Dan Flaherty

“Chocolate Lab” American Brown Ale – Smooth, with just a hint of chocolate from the malt.  Brewer, Mark Robinson

Toasted Coconut Porter – It’s a porter with chocolate malt, and toasted coconut was added to the secondary. 6% ABV.   Brewer, Chuck Harp

Belgium Witt – with coriander, chamomile and clementines.  Brewer, Scott Mathis

Chocolate Lab (IMG_2462Milk) Stout – Chocolate milk stout pours black with aromas of chocolate malt, but has a smooth, light taste for those who think they do not enjoy stouts. Cacoa nibs added during fermentation enhance that chocolate flavor everyone enjoys. Brewer, Loren Prizant

Trouble
– American Stout with coffee beans from Highland Coffee added directly to the mash and Cacao Nibs (chocolate) added at the end of the boil.  6.2% ABV.  Brewer, Evan Brill

Rocket Ale

An American style IPA featuring Amarillo and Simcoe hops. Its aroma is both tropical and floral with hints of grapefruit and notes of pine. 5.5%.  Brewer, Rob Robertson.

Vista Ale – Smooth, balanced American Amber Ale with added floral finish using fresh picked Cascade Hops. 4.8% ABV. Brewer, Henry Hunt

Citra Saison – Citra hop based Saison, hop-bursted to enhance citrus flavors and aroma.  6.4% ABV.  Brewer, Scott Richardson.  Recipe, Ted Doll.

Trappist Single –Secret known only to Trappist Monks. Much like a Belgian Blonde, only drier. Brewer, Christopher Owen.

London Porter – Rich brown malt character with bready undertones, and English yeast notes. Brewer, Christopher Owen.

IMG_2457The Brewing. Beers were produced by the Louisville Aera Extract Research Society (L.A.G.E.R.S.) homebrew club during a recent “brew-in” at Apocalypse Brew Works. The Apocalypse lot was a patchwork of pots, kettles, hoses, carboys, buckets and burners.  The smell of grains, hops and special flavorings was in the air.

If you have visited Apocalypse in the past couple weeks you may have noticed the beer fermenting away.  All brews were produced at the brewery under the Apocalypse license.

The brewers will be serving brews from 5-11 or until the kegs run dry. They look forward to your feedback. This is a truly unique event for people who want to experience new beers.

IMG_2467It is all part of Louisville Craft Beer Week. The event includes live music, food and as always at Apocalypse, is a dog-friendly affair.  Drink Beer Til the End or at least til the dogs take you home.
