Gonzo Fest To Feature Local Beer

LouisvilleBeer.com is proud to announce the Second Annual Gonzo Festival at The Monkey Wrench because “Good people drink good beer” – Hunter S. Thompson.

Join in The Monkey Wrench’s tribute to the life, work, and legacy surrounding one of America’s greatest alternative writers and Louisville native, Hunter S. Thompson.

This annual celebration features some of the best live local & national recording artists, poets, authors, visual artists and more. National recording artists, The Whigs, will be headlining the event. The Whigs are from Athens, Georgia, and were recently seen on the David Letterman Show. The entertainment line-up includes The Broken Spurs, Fresh Millions (Austin, TX), Scott Carney from Wax Fang, Cougar Express, Nerves Junior (voted best album of the year), David Wax Museum (Boston, MA), Tyrone Cotton, Ron Whitehead and The Underground Rats, and Lydia Burrell.

Special guests in attendance will be Kentucky’s Congressman, John Yarmouth, and WFPK’s Kyle Meredith – emcee for this year’s Gonzo Fest.

This year’s event will include a LouisvilleBeer.com Beer Garden featuring fresh, locally-brewed beer from the Bluegrass Brewing Company, Cumberland Brews, New Albanian Brewing Company, and Lexington’s Kentucky Ale. In honor of the event’s namesake, “Gonzo” Imperial Porter from Flying Dog Ales will also be on tap. Additional sponsorship provided by Four Roses Bourbon and Red Bull.

If you can’t wait until October 15 to ‘get your gonzo on’, celebrate the night before at the Gonzo Art opening. All art will be based upon the life and inspiration of Hunter S. Thompson, and will be on display throughout the weekend. Artists include: Andy Cook, Carol McLeod, Evan Lebowitz, and Alexander King – all of whom worked together last year on the “Hunter’s Louisville” mural painted on the outside wall of The Monkey Wrench. Friday night will feature live music by local sensations The Murals, Son of the Widow, and DJ Geo.

The Gonzo Fest will take place on Saturday, October 15, from 3:00pm to 11:00pm (gates open at 2:00pm) at The Monkey Wrench located at 1025 Barret Avenue, Louisville, Kentucky, 40204.
